Biography

         Sam Matheson is a guitarist currently living and working in New York City. His music and playing is influenced by a wide variety of guitarists including Jimmy Page, John Frusciante, Elliot Smith, and Nile Rodgers. Sam currently plays with the Philadelphia based band "Whatever Whatever". He also maintains a busy schedule of recording and collaborations, as well as playing freelance gigs, including sub work and pit orchestra playing. 

       Sam began playing guitar around the age of 12. By the age of 16  he was practicing and jamming regularly and began playing shows around the DC area with his band "Freakandy".Through this band he learned valuable skills about promotion, booking, and marketing. As well as gaining the experience that can only come from performing regularly. While attending Berklee College of Music in Boston he joined the band Cherry Mellow and with his bandmates recorded the e.p. "Take a Lick". Together they played three east coast tours, with shows ranging from clubs to graduation parties. In November 2015 Cherry Mellow's song Television was selected by Beat Dynamics as the winner of their music video contest, and a video featuring the band members was filmed and released. Sam Left Cherry Mellow in the spring of 2015 to pursue other musical projects. While playing with Cherry Mellow, Sam also began playing with the DC area band Turtle Recall after subbing in last minute for a show. Playing with Turtle Recall has given Sam the opportunity to play at a number of notable venues and events including: Shamrockfest with Blues Traveller and Reel Big Fish, as well The Black Cat, Rock and Roll Marathon, The Bullpen at Nats Park, and The Howard Theatre. Sam continues to play with Turtle Recall as well as Whatever Whatever, and also maintains a busy teaching schedule.
